Case No 5856/2009 Order to examine 100-year-old document and obtain information
The Public Authority present states that the old records of that period have all become weak and powdery due to efflux of time and particular piece of information that he wanted out of them are not accessible from whatever surviving pieces that can be found. Since it is a known fact that the records of those days are on acid paper and are prone to damage and since the revenue rules provides that once revised settlement is carried out the old settlement assumes only historical value and their preservation is not considered a vital issue, the Commission agrees with the Public Authority that what is not available with them cannot be given.
However the petitioner is afforded the opportunity to go personally and inspect the record room of the Public Authority where this particular records are kept, satisfy himself that whether any records which he wants can be extracted and are still recoverable from them. The case is closed.
